3-room HDB Resale Apartment Gets a Unique Renovation
This renovation of a typical 3-room HDB Resale apartment was far from ordinary. The aim was to open up the space by removing walls between the kitchen and living room, as well as the bedroom, resulting in a continuous, bright, and airy atmosphere.
Upon entering, you encounter a simple rectangular layout comprising the living and dining areas. The warm touch of light-coloured wood-grain vinyl flooring contrasts elegantly with the dark walnut fluted panels adorning the walls.
The TV wall is flanked by a tall unit housing the homeowner’s book collection and electronic devices. The space that used to be Bedroom 2 now features sliding doors with ventilation strips, creating a multi-functional area that serves as a helper’s room when needed or an additional entertaining space when guests are present.
This room includes a Murphy Bed and functional wardrobe, providing flexibility as a bedroom and an extension of the living area.
A storeroom was cleverly carved out from the bedroom, with doors blending seamlessly with the walls for a sleek appearance.
The dining area, designed with a custom bench offering extra storage, accommodates six people but can expand to host 12 comfortably. Adjacent to this area is the dry kitchen, equipped with a sink, microwave, fridge, and oven.
The separation of wet and dry kitchens prevents cooking fumes from spreading, achieved through a clear glass fixed panel and a bi-fold door with a black mild-steel frame, lending a modern touch.
In the wet kitchen, an induction stove is tucked neatly at the side, highlighted by a teal fish scale backsplash for visual interest. Ample drawer space under the stove allows for convenient storage of pots and pans.
Next to the cooking space is a designated area for laundry, maximizing counter space above the washing machine and concealing the rubbish chute with carpentry for a clean look
We’re thrilled with the final result of this home transformation. The traditional layout of the older 3-room flats provided a great foundation, and through creative design and thoughtful space utilisation, we’ve crafted a unique and functional living space that the homeowners can cherish for years to come.
