A 4-room HDB Resale Apartment Boasts a Generous Kitchen Island Perfect for Gatherings

We all know that everything happens in the kitchen. These days, it is no longer just a place to cook. The kitchen has become the space where the family gathers and communicates most.  Based on these principles, our Designer centered the design of this 4-room HDB Resale apartment around the heart of the home – The Kitchen.

When you enter this apartment, you will first be greeted by a generous-sized island that has an open and closed storage space, as well as a six-seater dining table.  We also created a full-height cabinet space behind the island knowing that the homeowners own many recipe books that require storage space. We also kept the space neat by tucking the fridge, as well as the built-in oven and microwave in this cabinet.

This layout not only keeps the dining area neat but also makes it function where the island could double up as a worktop space while the homeowners are baking or taking things out from the fridge.

Adjacent to the dining area, you can find the wet kitchen which is tucked away from prying eyes in the main corridor. We used the full length of the wall, to install both upper and lower cabinets, allowing for more storage space for the homeowners.  Separated by a structural column, we then divided the space between the cooking and washing area. The use of marble-like Quartz for both the countertop and backsplash keeps the kitchen looking neat, and well put together.

The living room design was kept simple and minimalistic and focuses on the TV area. The open-concept layout between the kitchen and the living room also meant that everyone would be able to communicate with each other freely, whether they are in the living room, the dining room, or the kitchen.

Walking towards the corridor, there are three bedrooms and one common bathroom located in this area.  The common bathroom was designed with a touch of whimsy using playful and colourful terrazzo tiles as the bathroom feature wall.  This contrasted well with the more serious solid colour marble-like tiles.

Like the rest of the house, we put up a vanity cabinet in the bathroom for additional storage so that the homeowners can keep the toiletries away for a neat-looking bathroom.

Moving on to the master bedroom, our Designer took on a more zen approach and design the space with clean lines and calming tones. The use of wood through the bed frame, as well as the Venetian blinds, adds warmth to the bedroom. We made use of the recessed area to put up a full-height cabinet with sliding doors so that the homeowners have more floor space to add a side table.

The ensuite bathroom, inspired by bathrooms that we find in resorts was decked with printed tiles.  The bustling patterns also meant that we have to keep everything else subtle so that only the tiles become the feature of the space. We did away with the shower screen for this space, to keep the bathroom spacious.
