A Bright and Spacious 4-room HDB Resale Apartment in Bishan

In this 4-room HDB apartment, we took down the walls of one bedroom and converted it into a spacious dining area. Separated by a kitchen peninsular, the kitchen and dining are split into a wet and dry area, and is a perfect space for hosting friends and family.
Using the same wood laminate throughout the space, the kitchen is now bright and airy; a stark contrast from the closed-off, narrow kitchen that it was before.

The semi-matte grey floor tiles used throughout the home, are not only easy to maintain but complement the minimalistic design of the house perfectly. The homeowner’s selection of the wood slab table lends an organic finish to an otherwise clean and sleek home.

We made full use of the wall area to create storage spaces for the home with lower and upper cabinets. To create an uncluttered look, we used the same material for the kitchen top as well as the backsplash. Running parallel on the opposite side is a kitchen peninsular with more storage spaces and a laundry area that provides additional countertop space.

The kitchen peninsular had a curve at the end to help break the linear lines found in the space. This help softens the look of the kitchen while keeping the design interesting.

The homeowner also purchased the recessed area and made it perfect for a welcoming entryway. The use of printed tiles adds a visual treat while demarcating the “balcony” space clearly.

The TV console, tucked at the side of the entrance utilises the same beige laminate as the shoe cabinet and created a clean flow before transiting to the wood finishes that we get to see in the kitchen. The TV console was designed low for a more contemporary look.

In the master bedroom, the wash basin was placed outside the master toilet and is separated by a half wall and half fluted glass. This gives the homeowner the flexibility to install a bigger vanity to stow away her toiletries neatly.

Here is the layout plan for this home renovation and how we have taken down the walls to open up the space.
